MATH:
Unit 11 - Numbers through 40 is a lengthy unit. On Friday we took a short quiz covering everything we covered during the week. The quiz is being sent home in your child's red homework folder today. Please keep the quiz to use as a reference. Do not send it back to school. This week the primary focus is adding numbers within 40. A "Friendly Notes" information sheet #2 is being sent home in your child's red homework folder on Tuesday. Please look through it closely as is covers the language and steps that we are learning in class and keep it as a reference to use when helping your child with homework. POETRY: "My Shadow" by Robert Lewis Stevenson Students should be completely confident with stanza one, have stanza two memorized, and start working on stanza 3 by the end of this week. PROJECT NIGHT:
Project night was busy and I went home feeling absolutely exhausted, but very excited because I thought it was amazing! The scholars did such an amazing job. Mrs. Washburn also told us that she was impressed by how much knowledge the first graders had when presenting their projects. Way to go! MATH: We have just begun our unit on Numbers through 40. This is a very large unit with a lot of information. The first "Friendly Notes" pages for this chapter will be sent home in your child's red homework folder on Wednesday. Continue practicing addition and subtraction math facts through 10. Being fluent with those math facts will help your child with the concepts they will be learning in this chapter immensely. Students are not working out of math workbook 1B. Workbook 1A was sent home last week. Please keep 1A at home. POETRY: The students will have several weeks to memorize the poem "My Shadow" by Robert Lewis Stevenson. In class we talked about how longer poems are divided into stanzas. I told them to focus on one stanza each week. They are going to want to have the first stanza memorized and begin working on the second stanza by the end of this week. GRAMMAR: Review of common nouns, proper nouns, and pronouns Introduce verbs HISTORY: Colonization of the United States UNIFORM REMINDERS: This is just a reminder to periodically check your child's sweaters and fleece jackets to make sure they have the ones that belong to them. They look alike so it is easy for students to get their items mixed up with their classmates. If your child is missing a sweater or fleece be sure to check the lost and found in the front office. There is a tall stack of items. UPCOMING DATES: Tuesday, Jan. 23rd - PSO Family Night at Wildflower Bread Company 5 - 8 pm Friday, February 9th - Spirit Day - Half Day Dismissal, 12 PM Monday, February 19th - Presidents' Day: No School PROJECT WEEK:
This year's project week theme is the human body. Information for project week can be found in your child's red homework folder. A note was sent home before winter break with the body system your child was assigned. We have also written it on the note sent home today in case the original letter got misplaced during the holiday excitement. Projects are due on Tuesday January 16th. Students will be presenting their project to the class on that day. PROJECT NIGHT: Project night is Wednesday, January 17th. Attendance is necessary and will be part of the scholars' grade. HOMEWORK: As stated in the letter that was sent home, it will be necessary to spend 30 - 40 minutes each day on the project. No other homework for any other subject will be assigned for the week. Hope the beginning of your new year has been wonderful! |
