Wow! We had a very busy week last week as we introduced, learned and practiced many classroom procedures. Classroom procedures allow for the classroom to run smoothly to create a safe environment for students to learn.
LUNCH REMINDERS: The students have lunch every day including the early release Wednesdays. The only times when students do not have lunch is when there is a half-day (12:00) dismissal. With the exception of the half-day dismissal, lunch begins at approximately 11:20. If you notice your child has forgotten his/her lunch and you need to bring it to school, please make sure it arrives no later than 11:00. BLUE FRIDAY FOLDERS: First grade does not have weekend homework so red folders will not go home on Fridays. Starting this Friday the blue "Friday Folders" will be sent home. The blue folders will include graded work as well as participation classwork. Inside each blue folder is a check off sheet. Please initial next to the date to show that you received the classwork. (There will not be a lot of work in the blue folders during the first 1 - 3 weeks.) Please return the Friday folders to school each Monday. MATH: While we will continue to practice procedures and learn new procedures this week, we will also be getting more into the content. Unit 1 is a short review unit of numbers 1 -10. This unit is a review of concepts taught the previous year and the unit assessment is scheduled for Friday. There are three regular things that happen with each math unit. 1. A "Friendly Notes" information sheet will be sent home in the homework folders for each unit. The information sheet contains vocabulary and the main examples of what is covered in class. This information sheet is not homework and is for the parents to keep as a reference. Since each unit builds on the previous units, I suggest keeping the information sheets in a binder or folder to use a reference throughout the year. 2. We always spend the entire math block reviewing concepts taught the day before a unit test. 3. Unless stated in the homework log, most math homework is in the math workbooks. Please make sure the workbooks are returned to school every day because we use them in class everyday as well. UNIFORM/DRESS CODE: Last week we spoke often about the dress code. If you have any questions about the dress code you may refer to the family handbook. The dress code is also in the front of the student agendas. Please look over the dress code carefully and contact the school is you have any questions. LOST CARDIGANS AND FLEECE JACKETS Please make sure that all ATE cardigans and fleece jackets are clearly labeled with your child's name. Since they all look the same, it is easy to get the different items mixed up. Please check your children's items regularly to make sure they have their cardigans and jackets. If there is ever a mix-up please return it to school and we will be sure to get the item to the correct child. A lost and found is also located at the front office. THE ATHENIAN ECHO: I have had several parents e-mail with questions about fingerprinting, PSO opportunities, and hot lunch options. Each week "The Athenian Echo" is e-mailed out to all Trivium East families. The Echo includes upcoming events and if you continue to scroll down you will find information, links, and contact information for all of the different organizations and events. UPCOMING DATES: Friday Aug. 18th - Half day - 12:00 dimissal (There will be no lunch on this day. Please make sure your child has a healthy snack to eat during recess.) Monday Aug. 21st - Fingerprint event for those wishing to volunteer (this event will be help at Trivium Prep) Tuesday Aug. 22 - K-2 Curriculum night from 6 - 7. (This is for parents only.) Tuesday Aug. 29th - Family night at Peter Pipe Pizza 4:30 - 7:30 Friday Sept. 8th - School Picture Day Have a fabulous week!
