Hello there. At the beginning of each new year I have no trouble remembering what year it is, but for some reason in February and March I keep wanting to write 2017 instead of 2018. :-)
FIELD TRIP: I am so thankful for all of the parents who said they were able and willing to volunteer for the Wildlife World Zoo field trip! As stated in the letter that went home last week, we are only allowed to take 7 chaperones per class. If more than 7 people volunteer, I will have to draw names and will let you know by this Friday. The deadline to volunteer is Thursday, March 8. Thank you for the prompt return of many of the field trip permission slips and money. Please note - the permission slips and money are due no later than this Thursday, March 8th. MATH: The division unit is a very short unit so we reviewed for the test today. The test review is being sent home in your child's agenda today. The review was not check or graded for accuracy. We will be taking the unit test tomorrow. SCIENCE: We are finishing up our habitat unit this week. The habitat test will be on Thursday. A "Friendly Notes" study guide was put in your child's red homework folder today. POETRY: Poetry recitations for "Bird Talk" by Aileen Fisher are this week. UPCOMING DATES: Friday, March 9th - No School: ATE in-service March 12th - 16th - No School: Spring Break Have a good week and enjoy the spring break!

Please keep the quiz to use as a reference. Do not send it back to school. This week the primary focus is adding numbers within 40. PROJECT NIGHT:
Project night was busy and I went home feeling absolutely exhausted, but very excited because I thought it was amazing! The scholars did such an amazing job. Mrs. Washburn also told us that she was impressed by how much knowledge the first graders had when presenting their projects. Way to go! MATH: We have just begun our unit on Numbers through 40. This is a very large unit with a lot of information. The first "Friendly Notes" pages for this chapter will be sent home in your child's red homework folder on Wednesday. Continue practicing addition and subtraction math facts through 10. Being fluent with those math facts will help your child with the concepts they will be learning in this chapter immensely. Students are not working out of math workbook 1B. Workbook 1A was sent home last week. Please keep 1A at home. POETRY: The students will have several weeks to memorize the poem "My Shadow" by Robert Lewis Stevenson. In class we talked about how longer poems are divided into stanzas. This year's project week theme is the human body. Information for project week can be found in your child's red homework folder. A note was sent home before winter break with the body system your child was assigned. We have also written it on the note sent home today in case the original letter got misplaced during the holiday excitement. Projects are due on Tuesday January 16th. Students will be presenting their project to the class on that day. PROJECT NIGHT: Project night is Wednesday, January 17th. Attendance is necessary and will be part of the scholars' grade. HOMEWORK: As stated in the letter that was sent home, it will be necessary to spend 30 - 40 minutes each day on the project. No other homework for any other subject will be assigned for the week. Hope the beginning of your new year has been wonderful! We have come to the end of an exciting quarter. Mrs. Richards and I wanted to extend our thanks for all the wonderful Christmas presents that our scholars have given us, and wish you all a very Merry Christmas! Have a wonderful break!
Hello!
This will be a short post for a short week. MATH: There is no math homework listed for this week, however I do suggest that you use math flashcards to practice math facts. As I stated in earlier blogs, you can purchase flashcards at Dollar Tree or you can make them on index cards. MATH FACT MEMORY GAME: When we come back to school in January we will be working on graphs and then we will be moving into addition and subtraction within 40. One of the skills that will really help when adding and subtracting through 40 is knowing the basic addition and subtraction math facts through 10. You can practice those math facts by playing a memory game. Write the facts on some cards, the answers on other cards, mix them up, place them face down and play a memory game. Not only will your child be able to practice the math facts, but they will also have to remember where the answer and the rest of the equation is placed. When your child becomes fluent with the math facts through 10 you can add the facts through 12, then 20. PENCIL BAGS: I just wanted to give you a head's up and let you know that many of the students' well-used pencil bags are falling apart. The bags that have the heavy duty metal zippers are holding up quite well. The bags that have the plastic slide zippers are falling apart and no longer zip. SPALDING: We have ten words for this week. We learned the ten new words today. We will review the words tomorrow and the spelling test will be on Wednesday. LITERATURE: Frog and Toad All Year PROJECT WEEK: The first round of information about project week will be sent home Tuesday. Your child has been randomly assigned a specific body system. The assignment is stapled to the note which will be in your child's red homework folder. More information will be sent home when we return to school in January. Enjoy your break! |
